This is my experience with the Patch 12311357 – 11.2.0.2.2 Patch Set Update Standalone grid infrastructure.
In my precedent post, article I have shown how to apply the Patch 12311357 in RAC environment.
1- Backup the database:
First of all, it-s recommended to backup your database with RMAN.
2- Update the Opatch version;
Make sure you have updated the Opatch with the latest version.
You can find the latest version in MOS document ID: 6880880
As grid user:
as grid user: -bash-3.2$ opatch version Invoking OPatch 11.2.0.1.1 OPatch Version: 11.2.0.1.1 OPatch succeeded. -bash-3.2$ ---Save copy of Old opatch version -bash-3.2$ su - Password: [root@srv05 grid]# cp -R /opt/11.2.0/grid/OPatch/ /opt/11.2.0/grid/OPatch.OLD/ The Opatch zip file name is: p6880880_112000_Linux-x86-64.zip [root@srv05 grid]# pwd /opt/11.2.0/grid [root@srv05 grid]# rm -rf OPatch [root@srv05 grid]# cp -R /opt/Linux_x86_64_11202/opatch/OPatch/ . Do you wish to remain uninformed of security issues ([Y]es, [N]o) [N]: Y The OCM configuration response file (ocm.rsp) was successfully created. Validate the Oracle Inventury:
4- Validation of Oracle Inventory
Before beginning patch application, check the consistency of inventory information for GI home and the database home to be patched. Run the following command as respective Oracle home owner to check the consistency.

5- Patch Grid home:
You can have the following issue if you try this command:
as a root user:

Any reason not to use auto patch for both CRS and RAC homes with one command? Or use opatch auto for RAC home as root user instead of taking multiple steps as oracle user?
