11g Data Recovery Advisor DRA

The new 11g data recovery advisor (DRA) is a new diagnostic tool provided to identify, suggest and repair the database after a failure.
Types of failures can be a block corruption, loss of a datafile…. In general, media failure. You can access to the DRA using enterprise manager or RMAN tool.
In this quick demonstration, we are going to present some of the capabilities offered by this DRA tool.

First, we are going to use RMAN to backup our database. The database version is 11gR2.

Dealing with block corruption

Introduction :

Oracle provides different tools to detect, fix corrupted blocks.
Corruption can be caused by a software bug or a media failure or a human error.
In this note, we are going to simulate a block corruption in Oracle 11gR2 database, and we will go through the process of detecting the corruption, analyzing the corruption and finally fixing it.
